Indie Game Development Journal: Aiye’s Animations are Ready

Aiye’s Animations are Ready!

So, I finished Aiye’s animations for the demo. It’s a day later than I wanted, but it could be worse.

Next, I’ll be placing them in Unity into the game and then getting the level ready. So exciting!

Just for the fun  of it, I’ll show you all a few of the sprite layouts for the animation sequences that I’ll be importing into Unity over the next few days.

As you can see, the animations are not exactly perfect, yet. But these will work just fine for the demo in October.

How Am I Going to Fix Up and Finish the Animations?

Well, the animations do still need a few touch-ups to make them look a little cleaner, and for the art style that I am aiming for.

In order to do that, I will need to purchase the pro version of Spine, which is about $270. I also don’t have an extra $270 to purchase it right now, so I’m using the normal version of Spine that I purchased at the beginning of the year for about $70.

The tools in the pro version of Spine allow for me to animate the skins as if they were a flexible mesh. Similar to 3D modeling, like when you skin a model to the bones. But for now, for a demo, these versions of Aiye’s character animations will do.

What’s Next for Save Me From Myself?

Next in line, I will be creating a few still image level assets and obstacles. I will only animate what needs to be animated for now. This way, I will be able to get a playable demo ready for the Game Dev Expo in Columbus.

If I get the level done earlier than expected, I will either animate and finish the in game level assets, or create a second playable level for the demo. Not sure yet which would be more beneficial for you all and me.

I guess I’ll decide when and if the time comes.

Good Night Moon

Man, that was one of my favorite books when I was a kid. My mom used to read it to my brother and me.

That being said, it’s time for me to get some rest and prep to go to the gym in the morning. So….

Night night.
